Come with us to explore the origins of the Creed we pray every Sunday, in the very places where it was composed: Constantinople, Chalcedon and Nicaea. Explore the iconic Hagia Sophia, boasting a dome that reaches 182 feet high and has withstood over 1,500 years of history. The Second Ecumenical Council was held in Constantinople in AD 381. The richness of the Christian inheritance in Constantinople/Istanbul is breath-taking and can surprise visitors even today.
Visit the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, wonderful examples of opulent Ottoman architecture. Our trip will also take us to Chalcedon/Kadıköy, where the Fourth Ecumenical Council was held AD 451. We visit Nicomedia en route to Nicea/Iznik, where the Nicene creed was written at the First Ecumenical Council in AD 325. That Creed was developed further over the years on but has remained part of the shared inheritance of all Christians.
